Iconic Northport

In 2022 the Northport Historical Society asked its social media followers to name their top Northport Icons. An icon would have stood the test of time, made a lasting contribution to our community, and stands as a symbol of all that is unique about Northport's heritage and values. The Society opened an exhibit highlighting the history of each icon and instituted the Northport Icon Award. Since its inception 10 businesses have received the icon award, with more to come.

On Great Cow Harbor Day 2024, the Northport Historical Society's Museum will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its opening. This year's Great Cow Harbor Day Parade will carry on the theme of "Iconic Northport," a nod to the original purpose of Great Cow Harbor Day as a day to celebrate our shared history and heritage.

This year, we are so honored that the parade will stop in front of the Northport Historical Society Museum at 215 Main Street, just as it did 50 years ago on Great Cow Harbor Day 1974, to cut the red ribbon, opening our museum with a brand new exhibit.

We ask: "What in Northport, past or present, is iconic to you?" Is it Jack Kerouac? Is it Phase II? Is it Laces Roller Rink? Or is it one of the named icons listed on this page. Use this page as inspiration and show us on Cow Harbor Day what it is that is iconic to you.
